On Level Playground, you will find lots of ideas for learning and playing for all children. Children have many interests and passions and we want them to try them all.
Children become aware of gender stereotypes, hearing and seeing messages about what they ‘should’ like to play with and can begin to change. This means they may stop doing activities they love, or are important for their development, because they don’t see other girls or boys playing that way. They might also stop because they are learning strong messages about what girls and boys ‘should do’. These messages (gender stereotyped messages) come from a range of places including home, culture and lifestyle, community, childcare environment and media.
This website will provide you with lots of ideas and activities for learning, reading and playing, not limited to gender.
On the Level Playground website, parents, caregivers and early childhood educators will find helpful information and resources to support them in the day-to-day work of raising children free from gender stereotypes. The website is growing all the time and ideas can be found for the following topics: learn, play and read.
Key features of Level Playground include:
Gender stereotyping can also limit the development of skills and abilities of children, as well as their educational experiences and life opportunities.
Children often experience responses and expectations from those around them due to their gender, and gender role stereotypes often influence the way children begin to experience life.
We hope to inspire a new generation of children who grow up not limited by their gender.
Level Playground is a project of EDVOS that aims to breakdown rigid gender stereotypes and gender inequalities which are drivers of violence against women. At EDVOS, we know that this violence can be prevented and we are investing in working towards ending it.
