🌟 Empowering Communities Through Knowledge 🌟 🌟 Empowering Communities Through Knowledge 🌟

Yesterday, we had the privilege of delivering a tailored 3Rs of Family Violence training session to the dedicated team at Mullum Mullum Gathering Place.

This session focused on deepening understanding of family violence and building confidence in supporting clients who may be experiencing abuse.

We were honoured to have specialist guests from The Orange Door – Outer East and Victoria Police, who shared invaluable insights on the support available for First Nations victim-survivors.

The training was a dynamic mix of interactive activities and meaningful conversations, equipping attendees with tools to better support our community members facing violence.

Together, we’re building safer, stronger communities. 💙✨

🌟 Empowering Young Leaders for Equality and Res 🌟 Empowering Young Leaders for Equality and Respect! 🌟

FVREE’s Primary Prevention Team has teamed up with local primary schools in Melbourne’s Outer East to deliver the Young Leaders for Equality and Respect program. This student-led initiative has empowered 58 students from 12 schools to identify gender inequality in their school environments and create projects promoting safer, more inclusive, and equitable communities.

Some inspiring student-led projects include:

A Peer Recognition Award system that encourages students to nominate peers who demonstrate positive and respectful behaviour.

A powerful poster campaign addressing disrespect in playgrounds, with slogans like “Call it out, that’s what it’s about” and “Get up, Stand up, Show up.”

Post-program evaluations show that all students feel confident discussing gender equality and respectful relationships, and now see themselves as leaders in promoting these values at school.

Together, we’re creating the next generation of advocates for a safer, more equal future. 💪✨

Level Playground loves the library! Last month we Level Playground loves the library! Last month we joined Your Library for a special gender equality story time session at Realm. Together we sang, danced and read stories about all the things that children can do – which is anything! The Primary Prevention Team shared the message that colours, toys, activities and clothes are for everyone, and that children should be free to explore all the things in life that interest them, regardless of their gender.

We finished the session by creating ‘about me’ posters, where children decorated their posters to show the different things they like. We talked about how different people like different things – and sometimes the same things – and that’s ok, as long as we’re free to be ourselves.

It’s still difficult to grasp that in Australia, It’s still difficult to grasp that in Australia, one woman is killed every week by her current or former partner, and this tragic number continues to rise in 2024. Violence is a choice—and it’s PREVENTABLE. No one should have to live in fear of their partner or family member.

At FVREE, we're committed to raising awareness about the warning signs of violent relationships and fostering a deeper understanding of what healthy, safe, and respectful relationships look like. Here are some of our highlights from 2023-2024:

✨ Partnered with 12 schools across the Outer East of Melbourne to deliver our Young Leaders program, empowering grade 5 students to lead gender equality and respectful relationships projects.
✨ Facilitated Body Safety and Consent workshops with @JayneenSandersAuthor, reaching over 300 parents, caregivers, and early childhood educators.
✨ Worked with people living with disabilities through our Champions of Change program, supporting them to create local projects focused on respect and safety.
✨ Trained over 440 individuals in our 3Rs of Family Violence program, reaching professionals in animal welfare, hair and beauty, state government, and community service sectors.

Together, we can make a difference. Let’s work toward a future where everyone is safe, respected, and valued.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Viole The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November—the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Launched in 1991 by activists at the Women’s Global Leadership Institute, this campaign is coordinated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, mobilising individuals and organisations worldwide to call for the prevention and end of violence against women and girls.

In 2023, a woman was intentionally killed by a partner or family member every 10 minutes—a staggering reminder of the urgency of this crisis. This year, the UNiTE campaign spotlights this issue under the theme: “Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women.”

At Level Playground, an initiative of FVREE, we don’t often talk about gender-based violence directly, but it is the backbone of our work. It’s why we do what we do—fostering a culture of respect, gender equality, and safety for everyone. We believe that preventing violence starts with education and changing the way we see and treat each other from a young age.

Join us over the next 16 Days as we continue working toward a vision of a community free from family violence—where everyone is safe.

Enough is enough! Show your support—get involved! #16Days #EndViolence #NoExcuse #UNiTE #FVREE

Today’s walk was a powerful and inspiring moment Today’s walk was a powerful and inspiring moment. Walking alongside survivors, like-minded organisations, partners, and supporters reminded us of why we do the work we do.

We feel energized and deeply committed to continuing our mission—providing vital response and recovery services for victim-survivors of family violence while investing in prevention and education to stop violence before it starts.

This inspiration ripples across our entire organisation, driving our efforts in response, prevention, and community engagement.

A big thank you to @RespectVictoria for bringing us together to amplify this important message.

Together, we’ll keep working hard to create a safer future for everyone.

By promoting gender equity and respectful relationships through early education and community initiatives, we work to create environments where all children can thrive free from harm.

Tomorrow, we’ll gather in the heart of Melbourne to show our support for survivors, for each other, and for a shared mission: ending violence against women, children, and marginalised communities.

Together, we will speak out, take a stand, and work to end the injustices of violence and gender inequality. It’s a collective responsibility, and your voice matters – walk with us and help make a difference.
